You're Too Self-Righteous
Excuse me for the light and casual remark.
Susie laughed coldly when she heard these words, "Rude?"
She sat on the chair to the side, crossed her legs, and frowned as she looked at Brett.
The little girl, though small in size, possessed an invisible yet sacred and inviolable power...
Brett lowered his gaze and sincerely said, "Yes, in the past, I was rude. When I first met you all, I mistook you for wealthy playboys and believed that everything you have now doesn't require any effort, but is merely inherited from your ancestors."
Brett remembered standing outside the school auditorium, watching the live recording of her math competition.
He only realized how serious his misunderstanding was when he found out that not only did Susie have talent and strong abilities, but she also had such a high IQ.
"Now I realize that you weren't, you have always been working so hard..."
Susie interrupted him, "Stop!"
She didn't want to hear any compliments from him.
"What you're saying is just human bias towards each other. If we don't know each other, some biases can be understandable," Susie said.
"But, did you think that we didn't like you, didn't want to be friends with you, just because of prejudice?"
Brett paused for a moment upon hearing the words, "Otherwise?"
Suddenly, he remembered that he had once plotted against Ledger during his time in Ghost Abyss.
Brett blurted out, "Is it because of Ledger?"
He silently watched Susie, the little girl with clear eyebrows and eyes. It could be vaguely seen that in a few years, she would become a beautiful young girl.
Even though she was only eight years old, Brett still asked, "Do you like Ledger?"
Susie: "..."
This person really left her speechless.
Of course, she liked Ledger, didn't she like being able to make friends with someone?
He could actually ask such a stupid question.
Susie frowned and said, "Of course, I liked Ledger, and I definitely didn't like you."
This time it was Brett's turn to frown, "You're still so young, why do you have to like someone?"
Shouldn't she have spent her whole life pursuing strength with such great talent?
How old were you when you started having a love brain, thinking about love and romance?
Brett didn't want Susie, who was so strong and powerful, to end up being a man's accessory and a brainless vase only concerned with emotions.
"You have been too dismissive of your own talents," Brett said disappointedly.
Susie: "?"
Hello? Were you okay?
Brett said again, "Because you like Ledger, you hold hostility towards me. Isn't that a bit unfair?"
Susie: "???"
Excuse me?
"Do you have a problem?" Susie said in a very serious tone, looking at Brett with a puzzled expression on her face.
That way didn't seem like cursing at all, but more like genuinely investigating if he was sick.
Brett was not angry, nor did he show a sarcastic expression. He simply said, "I waited for you for a week, sincerely wanting to get to know you again and hoping to clear up any misunderstandings. It is true that I was involved in plotting against Ledger in the past, but it was also a matter of survival, as I have a younger sister to take care of at home!"
"But if you had animosity towards me just because you liked Ledger, I think it was a very irrational behavior."
Susie: "..."
I have witnessed people of all kinds in this vast world.
"I have animosity towards you, not because of Ledger," Susie looked at him coldly, "But if it were any other person, unless that person deserves to be condemned to death, my 'prejudice' would be the same."
Brett argued for himself, "Was I wrong? I don't believe so. If one day you were in the same crisis as I was back then, with only one chance to survive, wouldn't you fight for it?"
Susie stood up and said, "I didn't like you because of your tendency to distort concepts and your extreme self-centeredness."
"I used to fight for myself. If I didn't know that person, I would at most seize the chance to save my own life. But I would never kick someone when they are in danger, completely ensuring their demise just to ensure my own safety!"
Brett stared at her and asked, "What if that person was a despicable person?"
Susie also stared at him, "What if he wasn't?"
Brett was unwilling to give up: "What's wrong with imagining him as a despicable person, just in case, when I didn't know him and didn't understand anything about him? We can never trust human nature!"
Susie retorted, "Treating others as despicable individuals without understanding their circumstances, what makes you any different from people like Mia? You never believe in humanity, so you will never have humanity!"
Brett: "..."
He thought Susie was really unreasonable.
Was he inhumane?
At least he can be said to have deservedly devoted himself to his sister, giving everything. Would an inhumane person care about their siblings?
"You were such a goody two-shoes," Brett said.
